At Eco Emi, we celebrate efforts to raise the standard of living in every country around the world. We believe that hard work and good choices will lead to a healthier planet for everyone. Every choice makes a difference from the great to the small, from the macro to the micro. Knowing your endeavors positively affect others makes life worth living. Every now and then we come across a story or headline that makes us say, Wow! When we find this type of story we want to share it with our followers. Here is one such amazing story…
Grace Hightower De Niro is a board member of the New York Women’s Foundation and member of the International Women’s Coffee Alliance. Learning the benefits of hard work and determination as a young girl, Grace put her experience with cultivation to use. After visiting Rwanda, Grace was inspired by its people and their sense of community. She was determined to form a business that was crafted around the idea of empowering the women of Rwanda to have a better understanding of business and be engaged in the country’s success.
Beginning her journey in 2011, Grace has partnered with the local farmers in Rwanda investing in their coffee, and today more than 9,000 coffee families have been impacted. Local schools in Rwanda have been built as a result of the coffee sales. As Grace mentioned in an interview, this coffee project has given the people of Rwanda “the opportunity to do business, to learn, to be educated, to have vision, and to have voice.”
Coffee of Grace has literally reaped the bountiful harvest from the time and attention given to the people and farms of Rwanda. Spreading awareness throughout the world about the horrific tragedies that the Rwandan people have overcome is part of the mission. Hearing the stories about the strength, dreams, and forgiveness of these people, and knowing that if we pull together, we can overcome anything.
Apart from its social mission, Coffee of Grace is driven to produce sustainable coffee of the highest quality. Having ethical standards as the forerunner, this company has successfully produced coffee through fair trade, direct sourcing, and environmentally friendly practices.
